Famous TV cook announces struggle with skin cancer

In a recent turn of events, celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay has undergone surgery to remove a Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC), the most common form of skin cancer. This type of cancer is typically caused by exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation.

The operation was performed by the medical team at The Skin Associates. Ramsay took to Instagram to share images of his surgery aftermath, along with a humorous statement that the procedure was not a face lift.

Cancer Research UK commented on Ramsay's post, expressing well wishes and emphasizing the importance of sun safety. The organisation advised seeking shade, covering up, and applying sunscreen regularly and generously. Ramsay himself also reminded his followers not to forget sunscreen.

The post received an outpouring of support from fans, with many sending kind words to the celebrity chef. Ramsay's daughter, Holly, left a note on the post expressing love for her father.

When caught and treated early, BCC causes minimal damage. The cancer occurs when DNA in basal cells of the epidermis is damaged, leading to uncontrolled growth.

In a video shared with fans in June 2024, Ramsay showed a massive purple bruise he got from falling off a bicycle. In another image, he showed a scar underneath the bandage with stitches. A bandage runs from his left cheek to the back of his left ear in one of the images.

Ramsay also reminded fans to always stay safe and wear a helmet, regardless of the length of the journey. This reminder serves as a reminder to us all to prioritise our health and safety, especially when engaging in outdoor activities.
