Farmers' Visit by Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Emphasis on ICAR Counsel for High-Paddy Yield on His Farmland
On August 28, 2025, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan visited his farm in Madhya Pradesh, where he shared insights on seed selection and disease management with farmers. The visit was accompanied by scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR).
During the visit, Chouhan inspected crops of bell pepper, tomato, and paddy, including Pusa Basmati varieties PB 1885, PB 1637, and PB 1. These varieties are suitable for cultivation in Western UP, Delhi-NCR, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Punjab, and Jammu & Kashmir.
PB 1, a semi-dwarf, high-yielding variety, was planted on Chouhan's farm. It is valued for its excellent grain quality, soft texture, and pleasant aroma. PB 1637, another high-yielding variety, is known for its long, slender grains, strong aroma, and excellent cooking quality. PB 1885 is valued for its superior cooking quality and tolerance to bacterial leaf blight and blast.
Chouhan emphasized the importance of following the guidance shared by ICAR scientists to improve crop yield and quality while strengthening sustainable farming practices. He urged farmers to exercise caution in paddy cultivation and follow the treatments advised by scientists to improve yield and crop quality. The scientists shared insights on addressing threats like stem borer and blast disease in paddy crops.

This visit by the Union Agriculture Minister is a significant step towards promoting sustainable farming practices and improving crop quality in India. By adopting the advice of ICAR scientists and planting suitable varieties like the Pusa Basmati, farmers can expect improved yields and better quality crops, contributing to a more sustainable and prosperous agricultural sector in the country.
