Fashion icon Chloe Malle takes over from Anna Wintour as Vogue's new editorial leader

In a significant shift at the helm of fashion's most iconic magazine, Chloe Malle has been announced as Anna Wintour's successor as head of editorial content at Vogue.

Malle, who has been steering all digital content for Vogue since 2023, has demonstrated impressive results in her tenure. Under her leadership, Vogue.com saw a doubling of direct traffic and double-digit growth across all key metrics, resulting in consistent monthly unique visitors of 14.5 million.

The daughter of actor Candice Bergen and the late French director Louis Malle, Malle joined Vogue as social editor in 2011, moving on to contributing editor in 2016. She co-hosts the Vogue podcast, "The Run-Through."

Malle's focus will primarily be on American Vogue, while Anna Wintour will oversee all other Conde Nast brands. Wintour, who remains as the chief content officer for Conde Nast and global editorial director of American Vogue and its 27 editions worldwide, views this editor-in-chief shift as an opportunity to help the next generation of editors with their ideas and a new view of what a major media company can be.

The editor-in-chief title that Wintour held for nearly 40 years is gone, aligning with changes throughout the Conde Nast universe. Jonathan Newhouse will join Wintour as global editorial director of American Vogue.

The change in leadership at American Vogue allows Wintour more time and flexibility to support other global markets served by Conde Nast. Wintour remains at the helm of the annual Met Gala and Vogue World, a traveling fashion and cultural event.

Radhika Jones' role as global editorial director at Vanity Fair was a precedent for Malle's new position. Malle has been outspoken about her liberal-leaning politics, reflecting a changing tide in the media landscape.

Vogue was founded 134 years ago as a society journal. Today, it stands as a global powerhouse in fashion and culture, and under Malle's leadership, it is poised to continue its trajectory of innovation and growth.

Malle will take over day-to-day operations at the U.S. edition of Vogue, but will report to Anna Wintour. Roger Lynch, CEO of Conde Nast, is Wintour's boss. Wintour remains at the helm of the annual Met Gala and Vogue World, a traveling fashion and cultural event.

As Malle steps into her new role, the fashion world eagerly awaits the fresh perspective and vision she will bring to Vogue.
