In the fashion capital of Milan, Fendi marked its centenary with a spectacular show that conjured a vision of Cinecitta's glamour. The event, held in a renovated space now double the size of the previous one, served as the opening of Fendi's newly renovated headquarters on Via Solari.
Silvia Venturini Fendi, the creative director, presented the A/W 2025 collections for men and women. The show was a mix of flashback and fast forward, representing five generations of Fendi. This was Silvia's first time designing the women's collection since 2020.
The collection featured smatterings of crystal, paillette adornment, delicate chantilly lace, and pleated taffeta. Techniques used included intarsia, honeycomb, and gheronato patchworks. Materiality was a focus, with 'fur' coats made from shearling.
The cast of the show included fashion icons such as Penelope Tree, Liya Kebede, Doutzen Kroes, Eva Herzigova, Karen Elson, and Sarah Jessica Parker. The latter, whose character Carrie Bradshaw popularized the Fendi Baguette bag, graced the runway, adding a touch of nostalgia to the event.
Silvia Venturini Fendi expressed hesitance towards nostalgia and focused on the future of the brand. She considered the show as a flashback and a fast forward, representing the past and the future of Fendi. The future leadership of the house after Kim Jones's departure is expected to be taken over by the next generation of the Fendi family.
The show was followed by a lively party with pasta and champagne, celebrating Fendi's centenary in true Italian style. The house, founded by Edoardo and Adele Fendi in Rome's Via del Plebiscito in 1925, has remained a family business, passed down through generations of women.
