Fast bowler from England Test squad taken out of County Championship assault due to multiple instances of beamers thrown
In the ongoing County Championship match between Leicestershire and Gloucestershire, held at New Road, Leicester on September 8–11, 2025, Gloucestershire managed to finish the first day on a strong note, despite early setbacks.
The day began with Gloucestershire captain James Bracey winning the toss and opting to bat. The opening partnership between Bracey and Graeme van Buuren proved fruitful, as they added 146 runs for the fifth wicket. However, a no-ball from Leicestershire fast bowler Josh Hull saw van Buuren caught off the overstep for 55.
Despite this, Charlesworth and Hammond put on 90 runs for the third wicket, with Charlesworth scoring a commendable 74 runs and Hammond contributing 50. Unfortunately, Hull struck twice in nine balls, reducing Gloucestershire to 55-2.
The day took a turn when Hull was taken out of the attack after bowling two full tosses above waist level. Umpires Hassan Adnan and Paul Baldwin barred Hull from bowling for the rest of the match due to the full-tosses above waist level. Hull had already dismissed Miles Hammond before this ruling, catching him at deep backward square leg.
Ben Mike walked off mid-over with a hamstring issue, leaving Leicestershire with three fit, eligible bowlers for the remainder of Gloucestershire's first innings: Ian Holland, Logan van Beek, and Chris Wright. Wright, in particular, performed well, taking 3 wickets for 56 runs.
Despite the early losses and the controversy surrounding Hull, Gloucestershire finished the first day on a high, with a strong total of 382-7. The second day promises to be an exciting continuation of this closely fought match.
