Favored India set to defend geopolitically significant Asia Cup title
The much-anticipated Asia Cup 2025 is set to commence in the United Arab Emirates, with the tournament opener taking place in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday. Afghanistan will face Hong Kong in a thrilling encounter to start the competition.
The tournament, which follows the T20 (Twenty20) format, will see eight teams battling it out for the coveted title. The participating nations include India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Oman, UAE, and Hong Kong.
The Super Four stage of the tournament will begin on Saturday, September 20, in Dubai. This stage will feature the top two teams from each group, with the group stages concluding on September 18.
Group B consists of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Hong Kong, and Sri Lanka. The match between Bangladesh and Afghanistan will take place in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, September 16, while the match between Sri Lanka and Afghanistan will take place in Abu Dhabi on Thursday, September 18. The match between Bangladesh and Hong Kong will take place in Abu Dhabi on Thursday, September 11.
Meanwhile, Group A includes India, Pakistan, UAE, and Oman. The match between India and Oman will take place in Abu Dhabi on Friday, September 19, while the match between Pakistan and Oman will take place in Dubai on Friday, September 12. The match between India and UAE will take place in Dubai on Wednesday, September 10, and the highly anticipated match between India and Pakistan will take place in Dubai on Sunday, September 14.
The match between UAE and Oman will take place in Abu Dhabi on Monday, September 15. The match between Sri Lanka and Hong Kong will take place in Dubai on Monday, September 15.
The Super Four stage will witness some exciting encounters, with the top two teams from each group progressing to the final. The final of the Asia Cup will take place in Dubai on Sunday, September 28. A reserve day has been scheduled for Monday, September 29, in case of any rain disruptions.
The players representing Pakistan in the 2025 Asia Cup are Salman Ali Agha (captain), Abrar Ahmed, Faheem Ashraf, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali, Hasan Nawaz, Hussain Talat, Khushdil Shah, Mohammad Haris, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Wasim Jr, Mohammad Wasim, Naseem Shah, Shaheen Afridi, and Sufiyan Muqeem.
