Federal authorities apprehended the accused burglars
In a series of events that unfolded over the weekend, the Federal Police Directorate Berlin has arrested two men in Berlin on Sunday, following an incident on S-Bahn line 41.
The incident occurred around 4:45 AM on Saturday, between the stations Halensee and Westend. According to reports by the news agency news aktuell, the suspects were initially noticed by civil forces of the Federal Police on the train. Alert passengers approached the two suspected thieves and told them to stop. However, the duo managed to leave the train before the officers could arrest them.
The Federal Police Directorate Berlin is responsible for the arrests and investigations in this case. On Sunday, the officers recognized the two men again at the Westkreuz station. The arrests were provisional on Sunday.
The 24-year-old suspect is Ukrainian, and his 28-year-old accomplice is from Moldova. The crime suspected by the Federal Police is aggravated attempted theft. The details of the alleged crime are not publicly disclosed.
The 28-year-old Moldovan suspect was ordered to be held in investigative detention by a judge, whose name is not publicly disclosed. The 24-year-old Ukrainian suspect is currently being held at the Central Police Detention Facility of the Berlin Police due to an existing arrest warrant for previous thefts and bodily harm.
