Federal law enforcement officers detain individuals at Terminal 2 in Frankfurt Airport.
Frankfurt Police Arrest Montenegrin Suspect Wanted for Gas Station Attack
In a significant development, the Federal Police in Frankfurt am Main arrested a 27-year-old Montenegrin man on August 20. The man, who had been living illegally in Germany for about a year, is wanted by Montenegrin authorities for his involvement in an armed attack on a gas station in Podgorica in August 2018.
The arrest took place at Frankfurt Airport's Terminal 2, where the man was being checked by federal police officers. Initially, the man claimed to be at the airport to pick up his family. However, it was soon discovered that he was wanted internationally for his role in the violent attack.
According to the Montenegrin authorities, the attack involved several perpetrators who used fists and iron bars. One victim suffered severe head injuries during the attack, and the suspect, along with the other perpetrators, allegedly damaged the man's car with iron bars and kicks.
In Montenegro, the suspect faces up to five years in prison for his involvement in the attack. In addition to extradition to his home country, the 27-year-old now also faces an investigation for illegal residence in the federal territory.
The Federal Police Office (Federalpolizeiamt) confirmed the arrest, stating that the arresting authority was the Federal Police in Frankfurt. The case serves as a reminder of the close cooperation between German and international law enforcement agencies in maintaining public safety and bringing criminals to justice.
