The city of Düsseldorf is gearing up for an exciting 11-day anniversary celebration of its spoken theater scene, starting on January 16, 2020. The festivities will culminate on January 26, marking a decade since the opening of the Schauspielhaus, the heart of the theater community in the city.

The celebration kicks off with Lars-Ole Walburg's production of Bertolt Brecht's "Life of Galileo," featuring Burghart Klaußner in the title role. The performance will take place on January 16 at 7:30 PM, with the theater located at Gustaf Gründgens Platz.

On the same evening, the long film night at 7 PM in the Unterhaus will showcase Christoph Schlingensief's Germany trilogy.

The following day, January 17, a discussion featuring former artistic directors Anna Badora, Günther Beelitz, Joachim Lux, Joachim Klement, and Wilfried Schulz will take place, offering insights into the theater's rich history.

On January 18, Christian Friedel and his band Woods of Birnam will perform in the main house at 8 PM, while the premiere of the new citizen theater production "Looking back to move forward" will take place at 7:30 PM.

The public forum on the architecture of the Schauspielhaus and other cultural buildings is planned for January 25. Meanwhile, the premiere of André Kaczmarczyk's new song cycle "I build my time" will take place on the same day at 7:30 PM.

Under the theme "Düsseldorf 2070 - Talking about the future of the city," a panel discussion with Moritz Doyle, Thorsten Nolting, Susanne Gaensheimer, and others will take place on January 22. Philosopher Peter Sloterdijk and architect Christoph Ingenhoven will discuss "Theater as a public space of urban society" on January 19.

The Café Eden, a staple of the theater community, will move to the heart of the city for the anniversary celebrations. On January 20 at 7 PM, the Café Eden will host a "Citizen Dinner Special," with guests discussing "Who owns the city?"

High-profile guests, including Minister President Armin Laschet and Düsseldorf's Mayor Thomas Geisel, will attend the ceremonial event on January 26. Heribert Prantl, long-time editor-in-chief and author of the SZ, will give the anniversary speech.
