Financial battery giant CATL displays the TENER Stack innovation during Smarter E South America 2025, broadening its South American footprint.
CATL Unveils Revolutionary TENER Stack at Smarter E South America 2025
China's Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited (CATL) has made a significant stride in the energy storage industry with the introduction of the TENER Stack. The new system, unveiled at Smarter E South America 2025, the continent's largest energy storage exhibition, is designed to cater to the growing demand for energy storage solutions in Brazil and beyond.
The TENER Stack is adaptable to CATL's different cell technologies, offering either up to five years of zero degradation or high-temperature resistance. This versatility makes it an ideal solution for South America's varied climates, underscoring CATL's commitment to sustainable energy development throughout the region.
One of the key advantages of the TENER Stack is its efficiency. It utilizes land area 45% more efficiently and offers 50% higher projected energy density than conventional 20-foot systems. This means that for large projects, the TENER Stack needs 45% fewer containers to build an 800MWh station than 5MWh systems.
The TENER Stack's "two-in-one" design weighs less than 36 tonnes, keeping it within transport regulations in 99% of global markets. Moreover, it meets IEEE693 seismic standards, ensuring it can withstand a magnitude of category 9 earthquakes and Category 5 hurricanes.
The new gas sensors in the TENER Stack offer a 10-year maintenance-free lifespan, compared to traditional 2-year sensors. Additionally, the backup for BMS and explosion-proof fans in the TENER Stack can now last for 2 hours during outages, compared to 20 minutes in conventional systems.
The TENER Stack's capabilities have been demonstrated in the Registro Energy Storage Project in Brazil, which has become a benchmark for the energy storage industry in South America after three years of stable operation and a recent expansion.
CATL's commitment to South America extends beyond the TENER Stack. The company has deepened its global business layout and expanded its industry presence throughout the region, including building local teams in Chile, Argentina, Mexico, Colombia, and the Dominican Republic. A new South America office will open in Chile this September, providing local expertise and support to customers.
As of the end of H1 2025, CATL's ESS products have been deployed in over 2,000 projects across the world, spanning all climate zones and operating environments. This includes the deployment of over 93GWh of energy storage batteries, which has secured CATL the top spot in the market share of global energy storage battery shipments for four straight years in 2024.
The fast-growing demand in Brazil, driven by a grid dominated by renewables, creates a significant opportunity for flexibility solutions. CATL is responding to this demand with the TENER Stack, which can store 9MWh of energy, enough to fully charge 45 electric buses with 200kWh battery packs or provide 6 years of electricity for an average Brazilian household.
In conclusion, the TENER Stack represents a significant leap forward in energy storage technology. Its adaptability, efficiency, and resilience make it an ideal solution for the unique challenges posed by South America's varied climates and remote installations. CATL's commitment to the region is further underscored by its expansion into local markets and the establishment of a new office in Chile. The TENER Stack is poised to play a crucial role in accelerating the energy transition in South America and beyond.
