Fire Rages in Elmshorn Food Processing Plant

A fire has been burning in a food processing plant on Wester Street, Elmshorn, since 11:30 PM on August 13, 2025. The fire departments of Klein Nordende and Pinneberg have been called to the scene, with corresponding personnel ensuring sufficient breathing apparatus carriers are available.

The Pinneberg Fire Department Association confirmed the news via news aktuell. Firefighting operations are being carried out with caution due to the need for breathing apparatus. Over 10 teams of two firefighters are currently involved in firefighting, with a telehandler from the THW (Technical Relief Organization) present to remove burning materials from the building.

Squad Leader and Incident Commander Detlef Hartwich led the first responders. The fire was initially noticed by plant employees who also triggered the fire alarm. Firefighting operations began around 12:00 AM after various parts of the facility were searched and shut down.

The focus of the fire department is on preventing the fire from spreading. No injuries were reported among the plant personnel, but one responder complained of circulatory problems and remained at the scene. The fire department is unable to provide information on the extent of the damage or the cause of the fire at this time.

Detlef Hartwich is known as the Squad Leader and head of the response team at the fire incident in Elmshorn. Specific details about his past are not publicly documented.
