Fire at Ewald Dörken AG in Herdecke Quickly Contained
On Friday evening, August 30, 2025, a fire broke out at the Ewald Dörken AG company on Wetterstraße in Herdecke. The Herdecke Fire Department was promptly alerted to the incident at around 20:07.
Upon arrival, the production facility was filled with smoke. A reconnaissance team found only burnt food, which was removed from the stove, and the incident was quickly resolved. However, the smoke had activated the fire alarm system at Millöckerweg, leading to a massive deployment of forces.
Nine fire departments from the Ennepe-Ruhr district and surrounding cities, as well as the control center of the Ennepe-Ruhr district, were involved in the incident. Besides the Herdecke fire brigade, the fire brigade from Wetter (Ruhr) was also called to the scene.
The firefighting efforts were laborious due to the use of angle grinders in the opening and dismantling process. Despite this, effective containment of the fire was achieved. An all-clear message was sent via the NINA app for the odor nuisance in Herdecke at around 01:19.
The smoke was coming from an oven where plastics were burning. Thankfully, no persons were injured in the fire. The fire watch was handed over to the company at 04:40, and the incident was then handed over to the police for cause determination after cleanup at the scene.
During the five-hour-long measures, catering was provided for the large number of personnel. Warm and cold drinks, rolls, and chocolate bars were available, along with seating and resting areas.
The Herdecke Fire Department expresses its gratitude to Johanniter Accident Assistance, which was called to the scene with the supply and catering component. The department also encourages the public to reach out to Gene-Joy Wagner, phone: +49 (0) 163 38 00 967, email: [email protected], or visit www.feuerwehr-herdecke.de for more information.
The Herdecke Fire Department also thanks the Hattingen Fire Department for conducting a fire watch at the scene. After the incident, the department cleaned the vehicles and equipment and restored operational readiness.
