Fire at Aalen-Unterkochen Police Headquarters
A significant incident occurred in the city of Aalen, Germany, on Wednesday evening. A fire broke out at the Police Headquarters in the Aalen-Unterkochen area, specifically at the location in Dyer Street.
The fire department responded swiftly, with 11 vehicles and 52 emergency services personnel from Aalen and Unterkochen on the scene. Upon arrival, they found that the upper floor of the multi-family house, which also houses the Police Headquarters, was already ablaze.
Fortunately, all residents of the multi-family house were able to evacuate the building in time. However, a 38-year-old woman and a 7-year-old child suffered minor smoke inhalation.
The fire caused strong smoke development, leading to visibility impairments on the nearby railway line and the B19. As a result, train traffic was halted between 9 pm and 9:30 pm.
Initial investigations suggest that the fire started in a kitchen of one of the apartments. The exact cause of the fire remains undisclosed. The estimated property damage from the fire is around 400,000 euros.
Following the incident, the building complex with eight residential units is currently not habitable. Police investigations into the cause of the fire have been initiated.
