Fired CDC Director alleges RFK Jr. undermined vaccination efforts with controversial maneuvers

In an op-ed published in The Wall Street Journal on Thursday, Susan Monarez, the former Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), revealed her high-profile termination from the agency. Monarez served as the CDC Director for just 29 days before being fired by HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

The op-ed detailed Monarez's disagreement with Kennedy over vaccine safety and scientific integrity. She claimed that she was asked to manipulate data to support the Trump administration's vaccine policy, omit certain data points, downplay the risks associated with vaccines, and prioritize political considerations over scientific evidence.

Monarez expressed concern about the potential long-term health effects of the COVID-19 vaccines and urged public health officials to prioritize the safety and well-being of the American people above political considerations. She asserted that her termination from the CDC was a direct result of her refusal to compromise on scientific integrity.

The op-ed also called for greater transparency and accountability in the vaccine development and approval process. Monarez urged for a renewed commitment to evidence-based public health policies and practices.

Monarez's firing followed conflict over politicization of public health decisions amid COVID-19 vaccine restrictions and workplace turmoil at the CDC. She was dismissed as CDC director because she refused to approve "unscientific, reckless policies" and was deemed not aligned with the president's agenda.

The op-ed concluded by stating that Monarez was let go after refusing to compromise science. It is a stark reminder of the importance of maintaining scientific integrity in public health decision-making and the need for transparency and accountability in the vaccine development and approval process.
