Firefighters of the Ennepe-Ruhr region work tirelessly for seven hours, with a team of 132 individuals.
On Friday evening at 20:07, the Herdecke Fire Department was alerted to a fire incident at Ewald Dörken AG company on Wetterstraße. Upon arrival, the hall was evacuated, and the entire production facility was filled with smoke.
The fire spread through a ventilation system of the production plant and released smoke into the open air via a chimney, causing a precautionary warning to the population via the NINA warning app. A total of 132 firefighters from nine fire departments across the Ennepe-Ruhr district and neighboring cities, including the Wetter (Ruhr) fire department, were involved in the deployment.
Regular tools and angle grinders were used in the opening and dismantling process of the production plant and piping system. The smoke subsided after the exhaust system and its insulation were opened, extinguished, and heavily cooled. The fire was successfully brought under control at 00:24.
The fire was caused by a furnace in which plastics were burning. No deployment forces were injured during the incident. Following the extinguishing efforts, the Herdecke Fire Department conducted a clean-up and restored operational readiness while the fire department Hattingen conducted a fire watch at the scene.
The Johanniter Accident Assistance was called to the scene with the supply and catering component. Catering was provided for the personnel due to the high number of personnel and the measures that had been ongoing for five hours. After cleanup at the scene, the incident was handed over to the police for cause determination.
