Firefighters Save Multiple Individuals from a House Fire in Bergheim: Multiple individuals were rescued from a multi-story house through the use of ladders, and the fire was eventually contained by emergency responders in the town of Bergheim.
In a coordinated effort by multiple fire departments, a significant rescue operation was carried out in the Bergheim-Auenheim district on Thursday afternoon. The incident, which involved a basement fire in a multi-family home on Forellenweg, was first reported to the Bergheim Fire Department at around 5:05 PM.
According to a statement issued by the Fire Department Bergheim, transmitted by news aktuell, a total of 45 personnel from Niederaußem, Oberaußem, Rheidt-Huchelhoven, and Quadrath-Ichendorf, as well as the full-time watch, were involved in the operation.
Upon arrival, firefighters from Niederaußem began rescuing people using portable ladders. The smoke from the basement had blocked the escape route in the stairwell for several people who had taken refuge on balconies.
During the search of the apartments, one dog was rescued via a ladder, while another was found by a fire crew. In total, seven people, including four children or teenagers, and two dogs were rescued using ladders. Two of the rescued individuals, including a child, sustained minor injuries and were examined by a paramedic on site. Fortunately, no one needed to be transported to the hospital as a result of the incident.
As the fire raged on, a crew from Oberaußem, equipped with breathing apparatus, managed to bring the blaze under control and extinguish it. Extensive ventilation measures were carried out to clear the building of smoke. Another crew checked all apartments but found no one else, apart from the dog.
After the arrival of the full-time crew, they were assisted by a turntable ladder. The operation was concluded at around 6:45 PM, and the building was made safe by the power company.
The cause of the fire in the multi-family house is still under investigation by the police; no specific person has been identified as the initiator yet. The Fire Department could not provide information on the extent of the damage.
