Firefighting Effort Intensifies: Multiple Hundreds of Straw Bales in Flames by the Local Fire Department - Firefighters undertake extensive effort: Multiple straw bales engulfed in flames

In the quiet town of Enge-Sande, North Friesland, a fire incident has caused quite a stir. The cause of the fire remains unknown, but what is certain is that it posed a significant challenge for the emergency services.

The fire broke out late last night on a farm, where around 600 straw bales were burned down. The fire department was called out to fight the blaze, and over 100 firefighters were deployed to extinguish the fire. The fire was fought for approximately seven hours.

Similar incidents have been reported recently in Wangels, East Holstein. Straw bale fires are not uncommon in the region, with the Ostholstein district experiencing such fires annually on November 11th. However, the recent spate of fires has raised concerns.

Straw bale fires are particularly challenging to extinguish, as explained by fire chief Jan Gregersen. The intense heat and the structure of the straw bales make it difficult to control the fire. In the Enge-Sande fire, an excavator was used to tear apart the straw bales in an attempt to extinguish the fire.

The police in East Holstein are currently investigating these straw bale fires for arson. The investigation is ongoing, and no further details have been released.

Despite the challenges, no injuries were reported during the fire incident in Enge-Sande. The NDR previously reported this fire incident, and the community is hoping for a swift resolution to the ongoing mystery.
