'Five fresh actors join 'Saturday Night Live' following significant exits by established cast members'

In a series of departures that have shaken up the cast of "Saturday Night Live" (SNL), five new faces are set to join the show for its upcoming 51st season.

The departures began last month with Devon Walker, Emil Wakim, and Michael Longfellow announcing their exits from the show. Walker, who was promoted last year, is known for his character Eric Adams, while Wakim, a featured player who joined the show last season, indicated he was let go. Longfellow confirmed his departure on Instagram on Thursday.

Walker hinted at a mix of positive and negative experiences during his three years on the show in an Instagram post. Meanwhile, Wakim expressed gratitude towards Lorne Michaels, the show's creator, and excitement for the future in an emotional Instagram post. Yim, the show's first openly nonbinary writer, also shared her experiences, highlighting the grueling nature of the job but also the laughter and growth experienced.

Rosebud Baker, a writer for "Weekend Update," and Heidi Gardner, whose departure has been reported but not publicly confirmed, are also among those leaving the show.

Lorne Michaels, in anticipation of changes following the show's historic 50th season, has confirmed he will continue with the show as long as his abilities allow. However, he did not confirm any of these cast members' departures personally.

On a positive note, Ben Marshall, Tommy Brennan, Jeremy Culhane, Kam Patterson, and Veronika Slowikowska will join the show as featured players. Brennan, who has performed on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" and was selected as a Just for Laughs New Face of Comedy in 2023, is one of the new additions. Marshall first joined the SNL writing staff in 2021, along with the other members of his comedy trio, Please Don't Destroy.

The upcoming season of SNL will premiere on October 4, with James Austin Johnson, who plays President Donald Trump, certain to return for the 51st season. The new cast members are eager to bring their unique talents and fresh perspectives to the iconic show.

As the curtain falls on the 50th season, the stage is set for a new era in the world of SNL. With the departures of some beloved cast members and the arrival of exciting new talent, audiences can look forward to a season full of laughter, surprises, and unforgettable moments.
