Flood Disaster in Punjab 2025: Notable Personalities such as Shah Rukh Khan, Alia Bhatt, Diljit Dosanjh, and Vicky Kaushal Offer Prayers and Encouragement to Affected Individuals
In the past few days, the state of Punjab has been battling one of its worst floods since 1988. The heavy rains in neighbouring regions of Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir have led to the swelling of the rivers Sutlej, Beas, and Ravi, submerging over 1,000 villages and 61,000 hectares of farmland.
The disaster has claimed 37 lives as of the latest report, and many more have been displaced from their homes. The floods have affected all 23 districts of the state, causing significant disruption to rail and road traffic in Jammu and impacting several families in Punjab.
In response to the crisis, various organisations have stepped up to provide aid. Misereor and its Pakistani partner Civil Society Human & Institutional Development Program (CHIP) have been providing emergency aid such as food, clean water, medical supplies, and temporary shelters in districts like Layyah. The United Nations, local partners, and Pakistani authorities have also coordinated humanitarian relief efforts, including evacuation, shelter, medical care, and the distribution of essentials.
The State Government of Punjab has sought relief for the flood-affected areas, and the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, has assured support for the region. Many Bollywood stars have also shown their solidarity with the flood victims, including Sanjay Dutt, Shah Rukh Khan, Alia Bhatt, Sidharth Malhotra, Karan Johar, Ajay Devgn, Rajkummar Rao, Ananya Panday, and others.
Sanjay Dutt has expressed his support for the flood victims, while Diljit Dosanjh has adopted 10 flood-affected villages in Gurdaspur and Amritsar to help in rebuilding. Gippy Grewal, Sonam Bajwa, and Karan Aujla, among others, are donating to organisations helping the flood victims, and Ammy Virk is supporting 200 families affected by the floods.
Despite the ongoing crisis, the spirit of unity and support among the people of Punjab and the wider community remains strong. The floods may have caused immense damage, but the resilience of the people and the help from various quarters offer hope for a swift recovery and rebuilding.
