Following the closure of the Crimean bridge, traffic congestions surged to over 1,500 vehicles.
The Crimean Bridge, a strategically important route for Russia, was temporarily closed on Sunday, August 24, due to a sabotage attack confirmed by the Ukrainian intelligence service SBU. The closure, which lasted for two hours, resulted in significant delays for a substantial number of vehicles attempting to cross the Kerch Strait.
At 14:27, the bridge was closed on both the Kuban and Krasnodar Krai side. During the closure, no new cars were able to cross the bridge. As a result, the number of cars waiting at manual inspection points saw a significant increase.
On the Krasnodar Krai side, the waiting time was over an hour, with approximately 370 vehicles accumulating. On the Kerch side, the waiting time exceeded three hours, with 1,200 cars having to endure the delay. It was noted that the waiting time for cars on the Kerch side was significantly longer than on the Krasnodar Krai side.
Residents of Kuban received notifications about aviation danger around 14:30. However, the aviation danger was lifted in Krasnodar Krai at 15:04. Traffic on the Crimean Bridge was resumed at 15:08.
Despite the temporary closure, the incident affected a total of 1,570 cars. The reopening time of the bridge is not specified in the sources. The bridge, which connects the Crimean Peninsula to Russia, is a crucial transportation link and its disruption caused considerable inconvenience to travellers.
