Germany-Born Midfielder Dikeni Salifou Joins KV Mechelen on Permanent Deal
Dikeni Salifou, a 22-year-old midfielder, has officially transferred from Bundesliga club SV Werder Bremen to Belgian first division team KV Mechelen on a permanent deal. The announcement was made by both clubs on Sunday.
Born in Munich, Germany, Salifou began his professional career with Bundesliga rivals FC Augsburg's youth team before joining SV Werder Bremen in 2022. However, his time at Werder Bremen has primarily been spent on loan to other clubs.
Last season, Salifou was loaned to the reserve team of Italian giants Juventus Turin and to Austrian club Austria Klagenfurt. His transfer from Werder Bremen to KV Mechelen took place after his time with these clubs.
Salifou has not had a significant role at SV Werder Bremen, making only one appearance for the first team. His previous experience includes loans to clubs outside of Germany, and he has experience playing in multiple European leagues, including the Bundesliga, Italian Serie A (through Juventus Turin), and the Austrian Bundesliga (through Austria Klagenfurt).
KV Mechelen has reportedly signed Salifou to a three-year contract. Salifou holds dual citizenship, German and Togolese, and will bring a versatile skillset to the Belgian club.
