Ford Initiates Mass Recall of 1.5 Million Vehicles Due to Rear-View Camera Malfunction
Ford Motor Company has announced a recall of nearly 1.5 million vehicles in the United States, due to a potential safety issue related to the rear view camera in certain models from 2015 to 2019. The affected vehicles include popular models such as the Lincoln Navigator, Lincoln MKC, Mustang, Ranger, Transit, Transit Connect, Econoline, Edge, Expedition, F-250 SD, F-350 SD, F-450 SD, and F-550 SD, as well as the Ford Escape, Edge, Explorer, Flex, F-150, MKC, MKX, and Nautilus.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has reported 18 accidents related to the camera issue in the recalled Ford and Lincoln vehicles, but no injuries have been reported. The issue can cause the rear view camera to show a blank or distorted image on the center display screen, which can reduce or distort the driver's view of what's behind the car. This can occur while the vehicle is in reverse, increasing the risk of a crash.
In response to the recall, Ford will provide a free service for inspection and replacement of the rear view camera, if necessary. Affected vehicle owners will be notified by mail and are instructed to take their vehicles to a Ford or Lincoln dealer for inspection and repair.
The recall is still ongoing, and affected vehicle owners are encouraged to follow the instructions provided by the NHTSA and Ford. It is worth noting that the recall does not extend to vehicles outside the United States.
Ford has not provided further details about potential solutions or repair plans beyond the recall notification and service. The company is urging customers to remain patient as they work to address the issue and ensure the safety of their customers.
The recall is a significant move by Ford to address a potential safety concern and underscores the company's commitment to the safety and well-being of its customers. Ford owners affected by the recall are advised to stay informed and follow the instructions provided by the company and the NHTSA.
