Ford's Electric SuperVan Outperforms Corvette and Porsche 911 on the Nürburgring Track
Ford's All-Electric SuperVan 4.2 Breaks Records at the Nürburgring
In an exciting turn of events, Ford's all-electric SuperVan 4.2 has made history at the Nürburgring, one of the world's most challenging race tracks. The vehicle, driven by Romain Dumas, completed a lap in an impressive 6:48.393, placing it as the 9th-fastest ever recorded at the track.
This remarkable feat is not only a testament to the SuperVan 4.2's performance but also a significant step forward for Ford's future race programs. Michael Norton, the F1 and Demonstrators Program Manager at Ford, highlighted that projects like the SuperVan 4.2 allow Ford's engineers and designers to explore the limits of vehicle performance beyond racing rules. This exploration, Norton explained, influences both Ford's road electric vehicles and racing programs.
The SuperVan 4.2 is a heavily modified race car, not a production model. It serves as a fun project for Ford engineers and is often used by the company for showcasing and record-setting at events like Bathurst and Pikes Peak.
The SuperVan 4.2's lap time was faster than those of several high-performance vehicles, including the Chevy Corvette ZR1X, Porsche 911 GT3 RS, Ford Mustang GTD, Audi RS Q8, Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S 4MATIC+, BMW M4 CSL, and Honda Civic Type R.
The inspiration for the SuperVan 4.2's impressive lap time can be traced back to a 2009 Top Gear segment featuring a Ford Transit. In this segment, Sabine Schmitz took a Ford Transit around the Nürburgring in 10:08.49, which was slower than her 10-minute goal. The SuperVan 4.2's time is a significant improvement over this, showcasing the advancements in electric vehicle technology.
Ford has posted a video to prove the SuperVan 4.2's Nuürburgring lap, allowing enthusiasts and auto enthusiasts alike to witness this incredible achievement.
