India is set to experience heavy rainfall over the next few days, with several regions expected to be affected by isolated very heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.
On August 31, several states including Odisha, Vidarbha, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Punjab can expect heavy (isolated) rainfall. In addition, thunderstorms and lightning are likely over Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. West Madhya Pradesh and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal can also experience very heavy (isolated) rainfall, with thunderstorms likely.
The heaviest rainfall on August 31 will be experienced in Uttarakhand, particularly in districts such as Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Bageshwar, and Haridwar. A red alert has been issued due to the persistent heavy to very heavy rains, posing risks of flash floods and landslides. Himachal Pradesh has also seen severe rain-related events, but Uttarakhand faces a higher impact risk from swollen rivers and landslides.
On September 1, East Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand can expect heavy (isolated) rainfall, with moderate rainfall in Northwest India.
On September 2, Jammu & Kashmir, Haryana, and West Uttar Pradesh can expect heavy (isolated) rainfall, with light rain at most places in Jharkhand. On this day, Odisha can also expect heavy (isolated) rainfall, with thunderstorm & lightning possible.
Select days in September will see very heavy rainfall over Konkan and Ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra, as well as parts of the Gujarat region. On select days in Saurashtra & Kutch, localized very heavy rainfall is expected.
