Foreign Armenia travel is now accessible to Pakistanis residing in the UAE and other regions.
Pakistan and Armenia Establish Diplomatic Relations
In a historic shift for Pakistan's foreign policy, diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Armenia have been formally established. This momentous development took place during a meeting in Tianjin, China, on the sidelines of the 25th SCO Summit.
Senior officials from both countries signed a Joint Communiqué to mark the occasion. Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, and Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan exchanged the document.
The leaders of the two nations pledged to work closely at bilateral and multilateral forums, and discussed expanding cooperation in trade, education, tourism, and cultural exchange. They reaffirmed their commitment to the UN Charter and agreed to strengthen cooperation in diverse fields, including economy, education, culture, and tourism.
The diplomatic thaw between Pakistan and Armenia is seen as a direct result of the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace agreement. Pakistan has welcomed this accord, with Dar describing it as a "positive step for regional stability and prosperity."
It is important to note that Pakistan has not officially recognized Armenia diplomatically. In fact, Pakistan is one of the few countries that do not recognize Armenia as a state, and this non-recognition has been a consistent part of Pakistan’s foreign policy.
However, with ties now formalised, Pakistanis, including the large diaspora in the United Arab Emirates and elsewhere, will now be able to visit Armenia. This opens up new possibilities for tourism and people-to-people contact.
The leaders of both nations expressed optimism about the future of their relationship and the potential benefits it could bring to their respective countries and the region as a whole.
