Foreign Language Competition in Germany resumes: Contenders from different nations convene to showcase their linguistic skills in German

Registration for the Federal Foreign Language Competition 2025/2026 is now open for students in grades 6 to 13. This prestigious competition, organised by Bildung & Begabung, the central institution for talent promotion in Germany, is one of the country's most traditional student competitions, with over 13,000 students participating each year.

The competition, which aims to foster linguistic and cultural skills, offers two categories: SOLO and SOLO Plus. In the SOLO category, participants submit a video and complete oral and written tasks on competition day. For those who wish to challenge themselves further, the SOLO Plus category requires participants to present two foreign languages, submitting a self-made video and an audio recording in the first round, and tackling challenging tasks in person in the final round.

Students in grades 6 to 10 can collaborate in groups in the TEAM School category to produce a film, podcast, or theater piece in one or more foreign languages of their choice. The best teams from the TEAM School category will participate in the Language Festival in Dachau next year.

The theme for this year's competition is "Languages connect everywhere." Students can choose to participate in the competition in various foreign languages, including English, French, Spanish, Russian, Japanese, Latin, and Ancient Greek.

Bildung & Begabung, a non-profit organisation, helps young people develop their talents, personal growth, and career orientation through competitions, academies, and other individual support programs. The organisation is a subsidiary of the Donors' Association, with the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs as main funders.

Winners of the Federal Foreign Language Competition will receive scholarships from the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes, cash prizes, and material prizes. Bildung & Begabung also provides extensive information, training, and networking opportunities for teachers, parents, and students, such as the conference Perspective Talent or the online portal www.talent-guide.de.

The registration deadline for the competition is October 6, 2025. All relevant information for young people, parents, and teachers can be found on the same website: www.bundeswettbewerb-fremdsprachen.de. The Federal President is the patron of Bildung & Begabung, making this competition a significant event in the German educational calendar. Don't miss out on this opportunity to showcase your linguistic skills and talents!
