Forest blazes erupting without identifiable reasons
The peaceful afternoon in Delhoven was disrupted on Monday when a fire broke out in a woodland section on Hackenbroicher Straße. Firefighters and police were swiftly called to the scene to tackle the blaze.
According to initial findings by the police, the fire may have been either deliberately or negligently set by unknown persons. The exact cause remains unknown.
The fire involved several tree trunks, covering an area of approximately three by three meters. Thankfully, the firefighters were able to extinguish the flames and prevent the fire from spreading.
The North Rhine-Westphalia Forestry Act plays a crucial role in this incident. Smoking in the forest is prohibited from March 1 to October 31, as it poses a significant fire hazard, especially in dry conditions. Open fires in the forest and within 100 meters of the forest are also prohibited according to the Act.
Carelessly discarded cigarette butts, hot catalysts, and exhaust systems can all ignite dry grass, posing a risk of forest fires. It's essential to keep access roads clear for large firefighting vehicles and park only on solid surfaces in the forest to avoid igniting dry grass.
Witnesses to the incident are asked to contact the Criminal Commissioner 11 at the telephone number 02131 300-0. Emails can be sent to [email protected]. For more information, visit the Police Headquarters Rhein-Kreis Neuss's website at https://rhein-kreis-neuss.polizei.nrw.
