Wuppertal Forest Unveils Interactive Digital Trail for Children

In a bid to promote environmental awareness among children, the Forestry Department of Wuppertal city, in collaboration with KiddyTrip, has developed an engaging digital trail in the forest. Named the Waldklimapfad, this innovative project aims to educate young minds about the dangers of forest fires, the impact of climate change on forests, and the crucial role of forests in water management.

The digital trail, accessible through a smartphone with mobile internet access and Google Maps, runs browser-based, eliminating the need for app installation. The trail, approximately nine stations long, is designed for children and lasts for about one and a half hours.

The trail starts at Zur Waldesruh 234 and encourages children to explore the forest in a playful way. At each station, children can answer quiz questions, overcome challenges, and actively participate, helping them understand the connections within the forest.

The project, funded by the Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt, Schutzgemeinschaft Deutscher Wald, and the Rotary Club Wuppertal-Bergisch Land, also seeks to strengthen the connection between children and nature. Deputy Mayor Dr. Kathrin Linthorst expressed her pleasure about the digital trail, stating that it is a wonderful example of education for sustainable development.

The digital trail continues to encourage children to explore the forest in a playful way while promoting awareness of the importance of the forest in times of climate change. The project's aims remain unchanged in the digital format, making it an ideal tool for modern learning.

The city hopes that the Waldklimapfad will attract many families to the forest, fostering a new generation of environmentally conscious citizens. With its interactive and educational approach, the digital trail promises to be a hit among children and parents alike.
