Neubrandenburg's Previous Mayor, Witt, Joins Loriot's Stage Tour - Former Mayor of Neubrandenburg, Witt, touring with Loriot
In a surprising turn of events, Silvio Witt, the independent and openly gay politician who served as Mayor of Neubrandenburg since 2015, has announced his resignation. The city, which is the third-largest in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, has been in the spotlight due to this development.
Witt's resignation, effective from the end of May 2025, was due to ongoing hostilities and lack of support in the city council. The council's decision to ban the rainbow flag from the train station square was a significant factor in his decision. Witt stated that he did not have the strength to serve the remaining four years of his term and decided to leave office early.
Before his tenure as Mayor, Witt had already made a name for himself as a cabaret artist. He had previously appeared in performances and even wrote poetry. His love for performing arts continues, as he is currently touring with a Loriot program titled "Ach was! - A Loriot Reading Evening."
The premiere of the tour took place in Ludwigslust and was attended by around 100 spectators. Further performances are planned for the fall in Neubrandenburg's Schauspielhaus, the Neustrelitz Theater, Stavenhagen, Wismar, and Greifswald.
It's important to note that Vicco von Bülow was not mentioned in relation to these events.
Witt's term as Mayor would have normally ended in 2029, but his early resignation has sparked a new chapter in his career. As he steps down from his political role, Witt continues to make an impact, both on stage and off, in the city of Neubrandenburg and beyond.
