Monza Free Practice 3: Hamilton Finishes 7th, Verstappen Takes Pole

The third and final free practice session for the Italian Grand Prix at Monza saw Lewis Hamilton finish in 7th place, ahead of Isack Hadjar who came in 8th. Alexander Albon, Carlos Sainz, Nico Hülkenberg, Gabriel Bortoleto, and Kimi Antonelli rounded out the top 13.

The track temperature reached a scorching 42°C under clear skies, while the air temperature hovered at a more manageable 25°C. Pirelli engineers increased the minimum pressure at the front axle by 1.0 PSI, to 26.5 PSI, for the race. The rear axle pressure remained at 23.5 PSI.

Max Verstappen secured the best qualifying position for the Italian GP before any penalties were imposed, with a time of 1:18.792, securing pole position. Charles Leclerc finished just behind Lando Norris, with a gap of 0.021 seconds, clocking the second-fastest lap time (1:19.313 minutes). Norris, however, recorded the fastest lap time of the session (1:19.331 minutes).

Leclerc had a near-spin in the Parabolica when his rear suddenly broke loose on medium tyres. He also went wide at the exit of the second Lesmo and grazed the gravel on his first soft run at the end of the session. Kimi Antonelli, the local hero, finished 9th after a crash in the 2nd Free Practice.

Gabriel Bortoleto surprised with a strong 6th place finish, while Oscar Piastri, the championship leader, came in 3rd, 0.2 seconds off Norris' best time.

Isack Hadjar may face potential trouble after driving straight in the second chicane, an offense for which he was previously warned. The stewards will review the incident after the session. No information about potential penalties or incidents for any other drivers was provided.

Similar weather conditions are expected for the Formula 1 qualifying and the race at Monza.
