Forward-thinking perspectives on the city of tomorrow in the digital domain: our municipal team in Ahaus

In a significant stride towards digital transformation, the city of Hamburg in Germany has developed a groundbreaking SuperApp that offers a myriad of services for city administration, businesses, and citizens. This innovative city is now known as the "Smart City Hamburg."

The city's digital vision was recently showcased during a visit by a delegation to Tobit Software AG in Ahaus. The delegation, accompanied by the CEO of city marketing, representatives of the local economy, press spokesman Raphael Digiacomo, and citizen's representative Luca Rudolph, found the consistent implementation and interlinking of digital solutions in Ahaus impressively integrated.

One such example is the city blog, a service offered by the city marketing. This platform provides news from the city, the district of Kassel, and the North Hesse region. It offers easy sharing on social media platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, Pinterest, LinkedIn, email, Pocket, Reddit, and Tumblr. Subscription is also available to receive the latest posts via email.

The city blog is not just a source of information but also a platform for engaging with its readers. It welcomes suggestions and criticism related to the news.

Ahaus, a city that embraces digital innovation, offers a variety of services accessible through the SuperApp. Expert lectures, including those on cryptocurrencies, can be booked via the app and held in a local bar. Cashless transactions are common in the city's gastronomy, with orders and payments made directly from the table.

The convenience doesn't stop there. A digital city voucher, accepted city-wide, can be used for shopping and paying fines. Even the hospitality sector has gone digital, with a digital hotel operating without reception staff. Check-in and room keys are available via the app.

Moreover, the SuperApp serves as a platform for other software developers to integrate their solutions. This open approach fosters innovation and ensures the SuperApp remains a versatile tool for the city's digital needs.

The visit to Tobit Software AG was a valuable opportunity for the city delegation to explore digitalization solutions and learn from Ahaus' impressive implementation of a comprehensive digital strategy. The "Smart City Hamburg" project continues to set an example for other cities aiming to enhance their digital infrastructure and services.
