In an unexpected turn of events, French cyclist Sofiane Sehili has been detained at the Russia-China border near Vladivostok. According to a report by the French newspaper Le Monde, Sehili was attempting to break the world record for crossing Eurasia by bicycle.

On August 14, 2023, Sehili attempted to cross through two different Russian border control points at the China-Russia border crossing near Vladivostok. However, his attempts were unsuccessful, and he was stopped at the border.

The exact location of the detention was reported to be at the Russia-China border in Vladivostok. However, the Far Eastern Customs Directorate has since denied this information, stating it as inaccurate.

Sehili started his journey on July 1 from Lisbon, Portugal, and had planned to finish in Vladivostok, Russia. During his journey, he passed through Tajikistan, Mongolia, and China, according to Le Monde's report.
