Fresh Digs for THW Bayern: The Roth facility sets a promising foundation.
New THW Facility in Roth to Boost Civil Protection
The local THW association in Roth, Bavaria, is set to construct a new accommodation as part of the THW construction program 2020-2030. This ambitious project aims to strengthen civil protection in Germany by building up to 200 modern, functional, and sustainable new buildings for the Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW).
The new building in Roth will span approximately 900 square meters, with a hall equipped with twelve parking spaces, built on a plot of about 6,000 square meters. This state-of-the-art facility will provide ample room for the larger THW vehicles and diverse material, ensuring efficient response to emergencies.
The local association in Roth, founded in 1953, is one of up to 30 new THW facilities with vehicle halls being built nationwide. The association houses a Zugtrupp, a Bergungsgruppe, and the specialist groups Nunsere Plattformtromversorgung and Notinstandsetzung and Wasserschaden/Pumpen. The volunteer THW forces are integrated into the local disaster control of the region and contribute to larger THW deployments at federal and state association level.
The THW, a volunteer-based operational organization of the federal government, with approximately 88,000 volunteers nationwide, is called upon by the federal government for technical and logistical tasks within the framework of the European Union's disaster management procedure and on behalf of UN organizations.
The owner and client of the new barracks is the BImA, the central real estate company of the federal government. The construction of the new building is being carried out jointly by the Federal Agency for Real Property (BImA), the Bavarian North Building Directorate, the State Building Authority Nuremberg, and the THW.
The modern vehicle halls in the new buildings will not only provide space for the growing and more diverse technology, but also increase the energy independence of the local associations in case of a blackout. Integrated heat pumps and photovoltaic systems on buildings and halls are crucial considerations during the construction of the new buildings, ensuring energy efficiency, climate protection, and sustainability.
The serial, systematic construction method enables completion in less than a year. The goal of the THW construction program is to build THW facilities in a serial, systematic, and cost-saving manner. The new buildings in Bavaria will provide more space for training and exercises of the deployment forces, contributing to a more deployable and resilient civil protection, as explained by THW President Sabine Lackner.
The THW local association in Bavaria, Roth, has approximately 16,000 volunteers across 111 local associations. The new building will house 105 volunteers and provide sufficient space for the Technical Zug with its three specialist groups.
Goldbeck won the first framework contract for the implementation of up to 60 new THW barracks. The construction of the new facility in Roth is a significant step towards enhancing civil protection in the region and across Germany.
