Injury Woes for Liverpool's Right-Back Position
Liverpool manager Arne Slot faces a challenge at the right-back position due to a series of injuries and absences. Jeremie Frimpong, who suffered a hamstring injury during the Premier League opener against Bournemouth, will be sidelined until the international break.
Frimpong's injury came in the 60th minute of the game, with Slot taking him off due to advice from the medical team. The Dutch defender has an impressive injury record, missing only four Bundesliga games across the previous three seasons with Bayer Leverkusen.
Conor Bradley, who was out once or twice last season, has recently returned from his injury and trained with the team for the first time on Friday. However, he and Joe Gomez, who has already played 20 minutes, are not yet fully fit. Gomez has not been able to train three days in a row completely with the team yet.
In the absence of Frimpong, Slot hinted that Wataru Endo and Dominik Szoboszlai could both feature in the Reds' backline against Newcastle. Endo briefly played at full-back against Bournemouth, while Szoboszlai has the versatility to play in the backline as well.
Potential players to cover the right-back position at Newcastle United during Frimpong's injury absence include Conor Bradley and Joe Gomez. However, both are not yet fully fit, which led to Szoboszlai temporarily playing as right-back in a recent match. Nick Woltemade's transfer to Newcastle United may increase squad options, though his primary position is offensive and not specifically right-back.
Despite the challenges, there is some good news on the horizon. Frimpong is expected to return after the international break, and Jeremie Frimpong will not suffer a setback in his recovery. The Reds will be hoping that their right-back position can regain its stability as the season progresses.
