Funding for initiatives aimed at averting crises, maintaining stability, and fostering peace

The German Foreign Office has announced a new funding concept aimed at supporting crisis prevention, stabilization, and peace promotion in fragile contexts affected by armed or violent conflicts. The concept, which also includes the Funding Concept for Democratization Assistance, is open for applications via [email protected] and [email protected].

The funding area covers a wide range of activities, focusing on peace mediation, rule of law promotion, extremism prevention and combat, promotion of democratization processes, including electoral assistance and strengthening of civil society, quick improvements in living conditions (especially in areas affected by armed conflict), reconciliation and transitional justice, and early warning systems.

Applicants are advised to submit their complete applications at least 12 weeks before the project start. The application process includes a pre-inquiry or sketch of the planned project. However, there are no specific guidelines for the amount of funding or the financing form and type.

Compatibility with structural development cooperation is a consideration in all funding areas. The project duration should not exceed three years, and the project duration may not exceed 3 years. Evaluations are eligible for funding, and evaluation expenses are also eligible for funding.

It's important to note that certain measures are excluded from funding if they are not in line with the stated purpose. Humanitarian aid and development cooperation funding are excluded. There is no publicly available information specifying a valid time duration or expiration period for the applicability of the funding concepts "Krisenprävention, Konfliktbewältigung, Stabilisierung" or "Demokratisierungshilfe."

The focus countries or regions for this funding are outside those unaffected or not threatened by armed conflicts. The German Foreign Office encourages applications that aim to make a significant impact in promoting peace, stability, and democratization in fragile contexts.
