In an unexpected turn of events, the Spanish City Summer Funfair in Whitley Bay, Tyne and Wear, has been closed until further notice following an emergency incident.

The fun-filled fair, known for its array of family-friendly attractions including fairground rides, arcades, and food outlets, was packed with families when the incident occurred at around 2.15pm.

According to North Tyneside Council, the closure was due to a report of concern for a man's welfare at the fair. The incident took place on a ride at the fair, with the man suffering serious injuries.

Emergency crews, including North East Ambulance Service and The Great North Air Ambulance Service, were swiftly called to the scene at the Spanish City Plaza area. A rapid response paramedic, a clinical team leader, an emergency ambulance crew, and the air ambulance were dispatched to attend to the injured man.

An off-duty medic was also present, providing additional support. As of 3pm, ambulance crews were still at the scene.

Northumbria Police received the report and confirmed the closure of the funfair. However, they have not yet disclosed specific details about the responsible individual or the man's current condition.

North Tyneside Council spokesperson mentioned that further updates will come from Northumbria Police. As of the latest update, no further information about the incident has been released.

The air ambulance landed on the grass area next to the funfair, adding to the urgency of the situation. The fair was scheduled to run until Bank Holiday Monday but has now been closed indefinitely.

This unfortunate incident serves as a reminder of the importance of safety measures at such public events. The Spanish City Summer Funfair usually promises a day of fun and entertainment, but today, it has become a focal point of concern and prayers for those affected.
