Game hunting seasons to commence for over a dozen species in Kentucky, with increased opportunities for bear and deer hunting
Kentucky Announces Changes to Fall Hunting Seasons
The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources (KDFWR) has announced updates to the fall hunting seasons, including new regulations for deer, bear, dove, waterfowl hunting, and some public lands.
For those residing in the Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) Surveillance Zone, it is crucial to review the hunting and trapping guide and the CWD pages on the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife website for complete information on restrictions. This year, Henderson, Union, and Webster counties have been added to the CWD Surveillance Zone for 2025, joining Ballard, Breckinridge, Calloway, Carlisle, Fulton, Graves, Hardin, Hickman, Henderson, Marshall, McCracken, Meade, and Union counties.
Hunters in the CWD Surveillance Zone can participate in a special season for antlerless deer from September 27-28. Modern guns are allowed during this season, but only antlerless deer may be taken, regardless of the equipment used.
The most popular fall hunting opportunity is the modern gun season, which takes place from November 8-23. However, an extended youth-only modern gun season has been added, running from October 11-19.
Kentucky's archery deer season opens on Saturday and crossbow season opens on September 20, both closing on January 19.
The KDFWR has also added more opportunities for deer and bear seasons in the state. Updates on baiting, check stations, and CWD Sample Drop-off Sites are included in the information for the CWD zone.
Hunters are encouraged to visit the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife website for the most current hunting and trapping guides for complete information on the fall hunting seasons. The 2025-2026 Kentucky Hunting and Trapping Guide is available online and at vendors for hunters to reference.
For any questions or more information about the fall hunting seasons, contact the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife information center at 1-800-858-2549 or [email protected]. The KDFWR looks forward to another successful hunting season in Kentucky.
