Garage inferno in Schwalmtal-Amern thwarted by firefighters, preventing further blaze
In the early hours of this morning, a fire broke out at a garage complex located on Friedhofstraße in the Schwalmtal district of Amern. The Volunteer Fire Department Schwalmtal, a local emergency response organisation, was swiftly on the scene to tackle the blaze.
The fire was reported at 07:15 under the call sign "House fire - several garages fully ablaze on building". Upon arrival, thick smoke was seen billowing from a centrally located garage. A team in breathing apparatus was deployed to combat the fire, and a C-pipe was used to bring the fire under control. A ladder and a second C-pipe were employed for further control and cooling of the roof area.
The operation on Friedhofstraße lasted approximately two hours. During this time, the road was fully closed. Adjacent garages were opened and checked for possible fire spread using a thermal imaging camera. Fortunately, no persons were injured during the operation.
The fire affected a parked vehicle and stored spare parts within the garage. The extent of the damage is currently being assessed. The perpetrator of the fire has not been publicly identified.
Following the firefighting efforts, extensive follow-up operations were carried out. These included the absorption and removal of spilled fuels and measures for scene hygiene. The scene was subsequently handed over to the police for investigation of the cause of the fire.
