Gathering at the 10th BlueTech Week hosted by Scripps Oceanography

Next week, San Diego will play host to the 10th annual BlueTech Week, an event organised and hosted by The Maritime Alliance. This year's theme is the Sustainable Development Goals, a collection of 17 global goals aimed at advancing economic development while ensuring the vitality of resources that provide for global advancement.

The event, designed to bring together participants from various countries, is set to showcase innovation in the Blue Economy, which includes services, resources, and industries fueled by coastlines and oceans.

Among the presenters at BlueTech Week will be Peter Rogowski, a Postdoctoral Researcher from the Coastal Observing Research and Development Center, who will discuss water resource monitoring strategies utilizing autonomous underwater vehicles (AUV). Ben Reineman, a Research and Development Engineer from Climate Atmosphere Science and Physical Oceanography, will present the platforms and sensing capabilities of autonomous underwater instruments.

Dimitri Deheyn, an Associate Research Scientist and Lecturer from the Marine Biology Research Division, will present three times at the event. Jenni Brandon, a Price Postdoctoral Fellow at Birch Aquarium, will present on marine debris and ghostfishing.

Stephen Mayfield, the Director of the California Center for Algae Biotechnology, will be on a panel discussing the future of algae for food and feed. Mayfield has previously collaborated with industry companies during BlueTech Weeks to advance algae biotechnology applications for sustainable food and fuel solutions.

Specific areas of focus for BlueTech Week include marine debris solutions, aquaculture/biomarine, maritime robotics, offshore renewable energy, water/wastewater technologies, and workforce development.

The tech expo, panel discussions, and networking sessions during BlueTech Week will be attended by representatives from industry, academia, and government. The second day of the week will be hosted at Scripps Oceanography.

Hundreds of international participants are expected to attend the event, which aims to highlight collaboration and innovation in the Blue Economy. The Instrument Development Group's newest generation autonomous 2000-m and 6000-m profiling floats, developed by Scripps and licensed to private firm MRV Systems, are likely to be a highlight of the event.

BlueTech Week is more than just an annual occurrence; it's a platform for fostering collaboration, showcasing innovation, and driving the Blue Economy forward. Don't miss out on being a part of this exciting event.
