Gathering for Lena Ludwig's Arrival
In the heart of Aschaffenburg, the city's Town Hall played host to a special reception on August 28, 2020. The event, organised by the city and the City Sports Association, was held to honour local swimming sensation, Lena Ludwig.
Mayor Jürgen Herzing, who attended the reception, praised Lena's outstanding achievements. The young athlete secured 8th place in the 50m breaststroke at the Junior Swimming World Championships in Otopeni, Romania, and won 2nd places in both the 100m and 200m breaststroke events. Lena Ludwig, a two-time silver medalist, was presented with a gift and a donation for the youth work of the swimming department of SSKC Poseidon during Mayor Herzing's speech.
The reception was also attended by Karlheinz Stegmann, the 1st Chairman of the City Sports Association, Svenja Lotz, the youth coach of the swimming club, and members of the Ludwig family. According to youth coach Svenja Lotz, the interest in swimming training is so high that they cannot accept any new children at the moment.
The success of Lena Ludwig has sparked a discussion about the need for a 50-meter training pool in the city. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Mayor Jürgen Herzing had considered building such a pool. In light of Lena's achievements, he promised to discuss the issue of building a 50-meter training pool for the swimming club in the relevant Senate. A 50-meter training pool is a major wish of the swimming club, SSKC Poseidon.
