Generous Volunteer Alexandria Gathers an Impressive 36,000 Pounds of Food During Summer Food Drive
In a heartwarming display of community spirit, the 2025 Food4ALX campaign, sponsored by Skanska, Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson, Inc., United Bank, and Fitness Together, collected an impressive 36,000 pounds of nonperishable food throughout the month of July.
The American Red Cross, in collaboration with local nonprofits and the Alexandria Department of Emergency and Customer Communications, initiated the food drive. The results of this successful campaign were announced on Friday, Aug. 22.
The food collected will help feed over 2,000 people for a month. Distribution will take place at two locations: the Leonard "Chick" Armstrong Recreation Center, situated at 25 West Reed Avenue, and the William Ramsay Recreation Center, located at 5650 Sanger Avenue.
Distribution times are from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Attendees are asked to bring reusable grocery bags and provide proof of city residency.
Hunger Free Alexandria's food pantries and ALIVE! will be the recipients of the donated food. ALIVE! will distribute free groceries on August 23.
It's important to note that Volunteer Alexandria is still accepting donations, even though the 2025 Food4ALX campaign is not being repeated. So, if you missed the chance to participate in this year's event, you can still make a difference by donating nonperishable food items.
Let's continue to support our community and ensure that no one goes hungry. Together, we can make a difference.
