Gevo participates in the global UNESCO World Engineering Day 2025 initiative

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the World Federation for Engineering Organizations (WFEO) are set to launch the UNESCO World Engineering Day (WED) 2025 campaign, with Gevo, a leader in renewable hydrocarbons, confirmed as an official partner for the global event.

The campaign, which aims to put engineering in the global spotlight, is focused on showcasing how engineers are leading the way in meeting the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) targets. This year's WED theme is "Shaping our sustainable future through engineering," emphasising the role of engineering in achieving the UN's 17 SDGs.

Mustafa Shehu, President of the WFEO, expressed his excitement about the campaign, stating that WED 2025 will highlight the significant contributions of engineers in creating a sustainable future. He added that the campaign will consist of a year-long series of events, films, articles, and news, with an estimated global reach of over 100 million individuals.

Jacques de Mereuil, Executive Director of the WFEO, expressed his delight about launching the WED campaign at UNESCO's global headquarters in Paris. He also expressed his excitement about having Gevo involved as an authority in sustainable fuels, praising the company's technology that enables sustainable solutions like sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), motor fuels, and chemicals.

Gevo's CEO, Dr Patrick Gruber, is dedicated to implementing regenerative practices that reduce water runoff, enhance carbon sequestration, and support the cultivation of robust, nutrient-rich crops with increased yields. Gevo's focus extends beyond hydrocarbons, aiming to restore the land and add protein to the world, while supporting farmers and economies.

Gevo's involvement in WED is showcased on the WED website at https://worldengineeringday.net/partner-stories/gevo/. The WED 2025 launch, campaign, and related content are live on www.worldengineeringday.net.

The WED campaign is jointly operated by UNESCO and the WFEO, with the WFEO representing more than 30 million engineers across 100 countries. The launch of WED in March 2025 marks the start of the year-long campaign, which will undoubtedly put engineering at the forefront of the global conversation around sustainable development.

By partnering with Gevo, WED 2025 is demonstrating its commitment to showcasing innovative and sustainable solutions that are shaping our future. As the world continues to grapple with the challenges of climate change and sustainable development, partnerships like this one between WED, UNESCO, and Gevo are crucial in driving progress towards a sustainable and resilient future.
