In a significant move for the poker world, GGPoker, a major online poker platform launched in 2017, has acquired the World Series of Poker (WSOP) brand for a staggering $500 million. The deal, which was finalised in August 2024, marks a new era for one of the most prestigious poker tournaments in the world.

The transaction, made with NSUS Group Inc., includes $250 million in cash and $250 million in promissory notes. Roy D'Silva, a published author with a decade of experience covering various beats, including Bollywood, OTT, and now poker, aims to be at the forefront of this significant story.

The World Series of Poker, established in 1970, is the largest poker tournament series held annually in Las Vegas. It has become synonymous with poker greatness, attracting both professionals and amateurs from around the globe. The flagship WSOP live tournament will continue to be held at Caesars Casino in Las Vegas for the next 20 years.

The main event of the WSOP is the $10,000 No-Limit Hold'em tournament, awarding a multimillion-dollar prize and the coveted gold bracelet. With this acquisition, GGPoker plans to introduce its innovative features, such as the "Smart HUD" for player statistics, "PokerCraft" for tracking gameplay, and interactive options like "emotes" to enhance the player experience.

The deal also grants Caesars Entertainment a license from NSUS Group to operate the WSOP Online real-money poker business in Nevada, New Jersey, Michigan, and Pennsylvania for the 'foreseeable future'. Post-acquisition, GGPoker will serve as the exclusive international satellite partner for WSOP events, and the WSOP brand will continue to support large-scale poker festivals and tournaments, including WSOP Paradise 2025.

Roy D'Silva, an avid cyclist and documentary buff, is excited about the future of poker under GGPoker's leadership. As the acquisition details continue to unfold, one thing is clear: the World Series of Poker is set for a new chapter in its storied history.
