Ghana Embraces Digital evolution as the Central Factor for Africa's Economic Success in AfCFTA
In a speech delivered at the Africa Business Festival: "The CEO's Connect Summit" in Accra on August 21, 2025, Hon. Mohammed Adam Sukparu, Ghana's Deputy Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, emphasised the importance of digital transformation for Africa's economic growth.
Sukparu urged entrepreneurs to adopt digital tools and investors to deepen partnerships with Africa's growing tech ecosystem. He stated that this transformation requires robust collaboration between governments, the private sector, and academia.
Under the leadership of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, Ghana is implementing bold policies and investments to build a digitally enabled economy. The country's initiatives include e-governance platforms, digital financial inclusion, and broadband expansion into rural communities.
Sukparu reaffirmed the Ministry's commitment to driving digital transformation across the continent. He commended the event organisers, Enzee Events and the Canada Ghana Chamber of Commerce, for creating a platform for dialogue among policymakers, entrepreneurs, and investors.
The future of African business, according to Sukparu, lies not just in its markets, but in its innovation. He emphasised the need for Africa to transition from a consumer of technology to a producer and innovator. If Africa digitises, according to him, it will globalise Africa.
Sukparu thanked the organisers of the summit and wished participants fruitful discussions. He expressed his belief that the future of African business lies in digital trade and innovation, and that Ghana is dedicated to digital transformation, crucial for Africa's economic integration and prosperity under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
The Ministry of Ghana is committed to strengthening support for startups, FinTechs, and entrepreneurs to solidify Ghana's position as a hub for business and technology in Africa. The summit's theme focuses on digital tools and platforms being foundational to global competitiveness and resilience.
