Gilead Sciences Begins Construction on a New Biomanufacturing Facility
In a significant move, Gilead Sciences is strengthening its biologics capacity and capabilities with the construction of a new facility at its Foster City headquarters. Known as the NTDC, this state-of-the-art research and manufacturing building is expected to be completed by 2025.
The NTDC, a five-story, 180,000-sq-foot structure, is designed for innovation and collaboration across technical development and manufacturing teams. It features flexible pilot lab space and advanced digital infrastructure, incorporating digitally enabled systems, autonomous robotics, and real-time digital monitoring.
The new facility aims to expand domestic production capacity for biologics, a crucial step in the pharmaceutical industry. The NTDC is expected to accelerate technology transfer and support the advancement of next-generation biologics, furthering Gilead's mission to produce life-saving medicines.
The NTDC is not the only new addition to Gilead's Foster City headquarters. The company is also developing two additional facilities: a new research building and a biologics manufacturing facility. These new facilities are part of a broader expansion at Gilead, reflecting the company's commitment to scientific discovery and innovation.
Over the last decade, Gilead has invested more than $15 billion in the U.S., demonstrating its long-term dedication to American research and development. The NTDC is a testament to this commitment, promising to push the boundaries of what is possible in biologics research and manufacturing.
The NTDC is located at Gilead's Foster City headquarters, joining a community of researchers and scientists working towards a common goal: to improve and save lives through groundbreaking pharmaceutical research. The new facility is expected to foster collaboration and innovation, driving Gilead forward in its quest to develop new treatments and cures.
