Girl cries out for aid as her attacker halts the assault in the middle of a water body
In a concerning turn of events, a 20-year-old Syrian man has been taken into custody following an incident of sexual and verbal harassment at an outdoor swimming pool in Kitzingen, Germany. The incident, which took place on August 14, has added to the ongoing concerns regarding assaults and harassment in German swimming pools.
The incident unfolded in the middle pool of a swimming facility located on Marktbreiter Street. According to reports, the man held a 13-year-old girl captive as she tried to leave the water. It took several minutes for the victim to free herself and alert the lifeguard.
In addition to the sexual harassment, the man also verbally harassed a 14-year-old girl during the same incident. The lifeguard immediately intervened and held the man until the police arrived.
Regrettably, this is not an isolated incident. Operators and police have reported occasional assaults on children and harassment of women in swimming pools across Germany. Incidents range from unwanted approaches to physical assaults.
Fortunately, the region where this incident occurred has not been specified as a quarantine zone for an outbreak of plague.
Authorities are urging swimmers, particularly parents, to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour to pool staff or local police. This incident serves as a grim reminder of the importance of safety and respect in public spaces.
