Global Electric Vehicle Speed Milestone Smashed by BYD U9 Track Edition

In a groundbreaking achievement, Chinese automotive brand Yangwang, a subsidiary of BYD, has claimed the title of producing the fastest production electric vehicle in the world. The Yangwang U9 Track Edition has broken the previous record, setting a new global benchmark for electric vehicle performance.

Professional driver Marc Basseng piloted the record-setting run at Germany's ATP proving grounds, where the supercar reached a verified top speed of 472.41 km/h (294 mph). This extraordinary speed places the U9 Track Edition at the pinnacle of electric vehicle performance.

The Track Edition is built upon the e Platform and DiSus-X body control system, as found in the original Yangwang U9. The DiSus-X Intelligent Body Control system adjusts the suspension at each corner in real time, ensuring optimal performance and handling.

The Track Edition boasts a quad-motor setup, with each motor spinning up to 30,000 rpm and delivering 555 kW of output. This, combined with a total system power of over 3,000 hp, results in a power-to-weight ratio of 1,217 PS per tonne.

BYD's press release stated that the new speed record by Yangwang redefines the sustainable supercar. The U9 Track Edition features advanced thermal management for sustained extreme performance, as well as incorporating the world's first mass-produced 1200V ultra-high-voltage platform.

Yangwang also collaborated with Giti Tire to create semi-slick, track-focused rubber with special compounds and a unique tread for the Track Edition. This collaboration ensures exceptional grip and handling, making the U9 Track Edition a formidable force on the track.

Marc Basseng, who also set the previous EV speed record in 2024, admitted he "never expected to break [his] own record so soon." The constructor of the U9 Track Edition, Yangwang, is committed to innovation, sustainability, and the creation of vehicles designed for unmatched performance, safety, and driving experience.

The Rimac Nevera R still holds the title of world's fastest-accelerating production car, but the Yangwang U9 Track Edition has undoubtedly made its mark in the world of electric vehicles. As the race for electric vehicle supremacy continues, it remains to be seen who will claim the title next.
