Global electric vehicle, the BYD U9 Track Edition, smashes existing velocity record for electric vehicles.

In an exciting turn of events, the Yangwang U9 Track Edition has claimed the title of the world's fastest production electric vehicle. On August 8, 2025, at Germany's ATP proving grounds, professional driver Marc Basseng piloted the record-setting run, reaching a verified top speed of 472.41 km/h (294 mph).

The U9 Track Edition, built upon the same e Platform and DiSus-X body control system as the Yangwang U9, boasts a quad-motor setup that spins up to 30,000 rpm and delivers a total system power of over 3,000 hp. This power-to-weight ratio of 1,217 PS per tonne ensures an unmatched performance.

Yangwang collaborated with Giti Tire to create semi-slick, track-focused rubber with special compounds and a unique tread for the U9 Track Edition. These tires are designed to handle forces at nearly 300 mph, providing exceptional grip and stability.

The U9 Track Edition also incorporates the world's first mass-produced 1200V ultra-high-voltage platform, enabling advanced thermal management for sustained extreme performance. The DiSus-X Intelligent Body Control system adjusts suspension at each corner in real time, ensuring optimal handling and stability.

BYD, the high-end sub-brand behind Yangwang, announced this new global benchmark for electric vehicle performance. The company backs Yangwang with its innovation and sustainability commitments, aiming to redefine the sustainable supercar.

While the U9 Track Edition is now the fastest production EV, it's important to note that the Rimac Nevera R still holds the title of the world's fastest-accelerating production car, electric or otherwise.

Marc Basseng, who set the record, admitted he "never expected to break [his] own record so soon" after the achievement. The Yangwang U9 Track Edition continues to push the boundaries of electric vehicle performance, offering an unparalleled driving experience.
