Callaway Unveils the New Apex UW: A Versatile Solution for Golfers
Callaway has announced the latest addition to their golf club lineup, the Apex UW. The new Apex UW, which builds on the success of the popular 2024 version, has been designed using tour-player feedback and is set to be a game-changer for many golfers.
The Apex UW is a two-in-one solution that bridges the gap between the power and stability of a fairway wood and the shot-making capability of a hybrid. One of the key features of the Apex UW is its neutral ball flight, addressing the issue of hybrids sitting slightly closed or appearing toe-heavy.
The new Apex UW technology was first implemented in Callaway's Elyte lineup at the start of this year. It comes with Mitsubishi Tensei AV Blue shaft options in 75g, R, S, and X, offering golfers a range of choices to suit their swing speed and playing style.
The Apex UW features a Triaxial carbon crown, which allows for better redistribution of weight in the clubhead, creating a more forgiving and stable head. Additionally, the Tungsten Speed Wave technology is used in the new Apex UW. This technology places a 41g Tungsten weight low and towards the face of the club to shift the Center of Gravity forward, increasing ball speed and promoting a high launch.
Xander Schauffele, one of Callaway's leading players, is said to have had a significant input in the development of the new Apex UW. He, along with other Callaway players, provided valuable feedback to help refine the club’s performance characteristics.
The Apex UW is available in lofts of 17°, 19°, 21°, and 23°, catering to a wide range of golfers. It is a club that may be a good choice for more serious or nomadic golfers who seek a club with touch more versatility for shot shaping.
The Apex UW will be available for purchase starting from the 19th of September 2025. While a full review of the Apex UW is not yet available, it is expected to be published over the next week.
Lofted fairway woods have been popular among professional golfers like Scottie Scheffler and Tommy Fleetwood, and it will be interesting to see how quickly the Apex UW is adopted by some of the game's best players, particularly Callaway staff players who will be in the spotlight at Bethpage Black.
The DP World Tour Season has concluded before the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black, and the new Callaway Apex UW could potentially make a big impact in the upcoming tournament. The Apex UW is priced at $349/£339, making it an affordable addition to any golfer's bag.
The Step-sole design is used in the Apex UW to provide efficient turf interaction, helping the club enter the turf and bounce straight back out without digging too deep. More traditional golfers and confident ball strikers may prefer the slightly more compact head of the UW over a high-lofted fairway wood.
The new Callaway Apex UW is set to offer golfers a versatile and forgiving alternative to traditional fairway woods and hybrids, promising to enhance their game and provide more options for shot shaping. Stay tuned for the full review coming soon!
