Golfers Compensated During Walker Cup Competition?

The golfing world is eagerly anticipating the 2025 Walker Cup, scheduled to take place at the prestigious Cypress Point Golf Club in the USA. This prestigious amateur event will pit the best from the United Kingdom and Ireland against the best from America.

The USA team boasts seven of the top nine players in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, including rising stars such as Jackson Koivun, Ben James, Ethan Fang, Preston Stout, and Jase Summy. All these players are tipped for bright futures in the professional golf game.

The event offers a great opportunity for possible future Ryder Cup appearances, with many of the young players using the Walker Cup as a stepping stone to the professional circuit. The USA team, in particular, is expected to put up a strong challenge, given their impressive ranking.

Amateur status has its drawbacks, as evidenced by Nick Dunlap's missed opportunity to win $1.5m at the American Express. Similarly, Shane Lowry, who won the Irish Open as an amateur in 2009, had to forgo the near $600,000 first prize. The 2025 Walker Cup, like its predecessors, will not provide any prize money to the participating players.

Broadcast details for the event have been announced. In the USA, coverage will be available on Peacock and the NBC Sports App from 12:30pm to 3:30pm and 7:00pm to 10:00pm (ET) on Day One, and similar timings on Day Two. Sky Sports Golf will broadcast the event in the UK, with coverage from 5:30pm to 8:30pm and 12:00am to 3:00am (BST) on Day One, and similar timings on Day Two.

The competition will be played over two days, with foursomes in the mornings and singles in the afternoons. The team that reaches 13.5 points first claims victory in the Walker Cup.

The 2025 Walker Cup will also see the participation of Ian Poulter's son, Luke, and Scottish star Niall Shiels Donegan. The event promises to be a thrilling display of golfing talent, with both teams vying for glory. Don't miss out on this exciting event!
